A small but complete agentic system: a LangGraph agent running a local Gemma 4 E2B model (Ollama). It answers retail-sales questions by calling tools on an MCP server. Those tools query a Cube semantic layer over Postgres, run guarded text-to-SQL, and forecast with Holt-Winters. Identity is enforced end to end: row-level security, role-based tools, and an aggregate-only role.

ollama pull gemma4:e2b

| user | role | sees rows | can do |
|---|---|---|---|
| alice | admin | all regions | everything, including raw SQL; sees real customer emails |
| bob | analyst | all regions | metrics, forecast, SQL; emails masked |
| carol | regional_manager | East only | metrics and forecast; no SQL |
| dave | regional_manager | West only | metrics and forecast; no SQL |
| erin | sales_viewer | all regions, aggregates only | sales measures by region, category or time (week or coarser); small groups suppressed |
All of this is set in config/policies.yaml. Adding a user type means editing that file, not code.
| as | ask | what to notice |
|---|---|---|
| carol | Revenue by store last month | only East stores; Cube injected the region filter |
| carol | Show West region revenue | empty/refused; she can’t see it at all |
| erin | Monthly revenue by region for 2025 | works: aggregated |
| erin | Revenue per store last month | “not permitted for role sales_viewer”; also logged in audit.tool_calls |
| bob | Using SQL, top 5 customers by revenue in 2026 with email | SQL approval prompt (human-in-the-loop), emails masked |
| alice | same question | same, but real emails |
| alice | Forecast weekly revenue for the next 8 weeks | forecast with 80% intervals and backtest MAPE |
| any | (follow-up) and for the previous year? | conversation memory (Postgres checkpointer) |

127.0.0.1 only, so nothing is reachable from your network..env.example sets DEV_MODE=true, which lets the placeholder secrets work. With DEV_MODE=false, the agent
and MCP server refuse to start unless JWT_SECRET and CHAINLIT_AUTH_SECRET are real (32+ characters,
not change-me…). Do that, and change the database passwords, before exposing any port.demo password) are for local play. See docs/path-to-production.md.MIT, see LICENSE.
Gemma 4 E2B is tiny. It’s fine at picking a tool and filling in arguments for the semantic layer, and noticeably weaker at writing SQL or doing multi-step reasoning. The design leans into that:
revenue instead of sales.revenue;Run the evals against a bigger model to see the difference.
